Progress Update:
August 18, 2007
The trailer looked very different today:
clearly things were starting to come together, and
Steve got a lot of work done this week.
To begin, the frame
was now properly aligned and spaced, and the forward
end of the frame was connected with a hefty
crosspiece. Steve had also cut the two angled
pieces that form the very forward end of the frame,
though they weren't yet welded into place.
The axle and
suspension assemblies were tacked in place, though
not fully welded yet, and Steve was mocking up some
dual tires on the right side of the trailer to
ensure that all the spacing worked out should I
desire later to install the duals instead of the
single tandem tires.
I was pretty
excited to see things moving along so well. I
can't wait to see the finished product!

All the pads are
installed and fully carpeted, awaiting installation
on the trailer frame as soon as it's complete.

A couple views from the rear of the trailer looking
forward, showing all the axle assemblies and tire
mockups.
 |
The forward end, showing the new crosspiece fully
welded in place.

 |
Looking aft, showing all the axle and hydraulic arm
support assemblies.
 |
One of the cutouts in the frame that will accept the
cross support beams (used to support the boats'
keels on the trailer), along with the sleeve that
will be welded within the cutout.
 |
Some views of the left axle and hydraulic arm
support assemblies. The tubing lying on top is
for the hydraulic lines, and will eventually be
completely inside the frame. More on that
later.

 |
The left and right suspension assemblies. The
air bags go at the aft end of those assemblies, on
the plates with the drilled holes.
