Marine Surveys from
Lackey Sailing
In 1994, I organized Gulf of Maine Marine Surveyors to
provide high quality and detailed marine surveys. My
surveys garnered praise from clients and insurance
companies, but raised the occasional ire from yacht
brokers--an indication of the quality of the inspection and
proof of my independence from the sometimes-strong outside
influences that brokers and other entities try to impose on
surveyors.
With the formation of Lackey Sailing, LLC in 2004, my focus
moved increasingly towards the hands-on rebuilding of boats,
using the extensive knowledge I gained during 10 years of
surveying and hundreds of boats inspected--mostly by seeing
so many different ways that things have been done wrong!
The main direction of
Lackey Sailing is now aimed on boat restoration and
boatbuilding, but I'd like to offer you my unique expertise
to help with certain types of surveys and boat inspections.
Pre-Purchase Inspections
for Project Boats
Are you interested in a project boat, but want some advice
on exactly how much work you're getting into? Want to
avoid the boats with the most serious structural problems,
but are interested in a fixer-upper nonetheless?
I can help. For a
flat consultation rate, I will inspect the boat with you and
point out areas that may be of concern, and also advise you
as to the overall scope of the potential issues. I'll
write up a brief summary, typically provided through email,
of the findings and provide digital photos is required, but
this inspection is not intended to be considered a survey
for financial or insurance purposes. We can discuss if
that's what you need.
For boats up to 35', the
flat consultation rate for this work is $350.
For boats over 35', the flat consultation rate for this work
is $500.
Reports beyond the brief
project summary are available for an additional $100.
We will consider additional
survey or consultation work on an individual basis.
Let's talk.
