1973 Sabre 28' Project Sailboat For Sale Asking $4300 tim@lackeysailing.com | 207-232-7600 (leave message if no answer) Specifications: Hull #:
HWS28040-0573 This is an early vintage Sabre 28, AKA version MK 1. The boat features original gelcoat on hull and deck, which requires cosmetic overhaul according to an individual's whim. The hull and deck were determined to be structurally sound at the last survey (2000); the boat has been laid up since. The boat's story is this: two owners ago, the boat was partially dismantled (interior, systems, engine) at the beginning of a restoration project. That owner failed to complete the project, though he completed 75% of an Atomic 4 rebuild, and purchased many new engine parts (all included with the boat). Eventually, the boatyard where the boat was stored took over the boat for lack of yard bill payment, after which it was sold to another owner who hoped to continue the restoration. He also decided not to proceed, at which time I purchased the boat on speculation. She has been on the hard at my yard since May 2007, under cover. Details: The hull and deck are in the condition you'd expect for a boat of this vintage. It might be possible to bring back the gelcoat to acceptable levels of appearance, but it's likely time to paint both hull and deck. Structurally, both hull and deck seem generally sound, as determined by the 2000 survey. I have not surveyed the boat to determine her current structural condition. The interior is partially dismantled, but all the pieces are there and can be reinstalled with relative ease (mostly the galley area around the engine room). Teak-faced bulkheads are in good condition but could use some TLC. Some of the original vinyl hull liner fabric has been removed; other areas are still in place. Overall, the interior needs little substantial work to return to usable condition. There are no interior cushions. She has the standard Sabre teak cabin sole. The boat requires all new systems: plumbing and electrical have both been mostly removed. Count on redoing these systems to suit your needs. The boat is tiller steered, and the rudder was removed by a previous owner (I have it stored on site). All the original deck hardware and teak trim has been removed, but is onsite and conveys with the boat. There are genoa sheet winches, various cleats and miscellaneous hardware, teak handrails and coaming tops, and assorted other equipment, all of which is available for viewing for interested parties. There are bow and s tern pulpits, lifeline stanchions, and single lifelines (lifelines should be replaced, but that's up to you.) The boat conveys with an Atomic 4 engine, on which a rebuild has been partially completed (2 owners ago). There are many new parts, still in the boxes and with receipts, for the engine, which go with the project. There is a mast and boom (original), in generally good condition with full rigging and roller-furling headstay (older CDI model). There are two sails in serviceable condition. The jackstands and blocking ARE NOT INCLUDED in the price above, but can be negotiated separately at market pricing if desired. Transport within a reasonable distance can also be negotiated separately. Asking $4300 tim@lackeysailing.com | 207-232-7600 (leave message if no answer)
