The Restoration Project

Our Lyman required a complete cosmetic restoration, with some structural work as well.  At the time of purchase, there were several broken ribs, some questionable planking, and some deformation of the hull in one or two areas.

Cosmetically, the boat looked OK from a distance, but up close it was clear that all the paint and varnish--everywhere--needed to be stripped and redone.  This was no surprise, of course; after all, we bought the boat as a project.

Despite all that, the boat was in usable condition.  The engine looked decent and relatively well-maintained, and the boat had been in use the season before.  Our plans for the boat in our first year of ownership were minimal--we hoped to play around with her a bit, and enjoy some outings, but we didn't plan to keep the boat in the water or do much work until the fall of 2004.  Originally, I planned to do nothing to the boat before using her on and off for the season.  Since the hull paint was in dire need of stripping, I thought it would be foolish to do anything to the hull till the time came to strip and do it right.

Please click the links below to view some of the work completed on the boat.  New projects will be added as they occur.  With many other commitments and things to do, this is a long-term project, so please be patient!
