Waanderlust Project--Phase III | Tuesday, August 16, 2011

With a sharp chisel, followed by dressings with sandpaper, I removed the excess bungs from the eyebrow.  Afterwards, I touched up the new, raw bungs with some varnish to even out the surface for later coats of varnish over the entire area.

I continued work on the interior varnish currently underway, sanding, cleaning, and applying an additional coat of gloss base varnish.

I pulled the original bow pulpit out of storage so I could address the wiring for the attached running lights before it was time to reinstall it.  I didn't know the working condition of the old wiring, but the wires were cut short and needed to be replaced in any event.

The lights were mounted in stainless steel housings that had been painted red and green accordingly; the old paint was in poor condition, so I removed the old paint while I was working on the wiring.

Using the old wires, I pulled new pairs of wires through each leg of the pulpit, as originally wired.  Where the wires exited the pulpit and ran to the running lights, I installed some heat-shrink tubing over the wires for protection and better appearance before making up the connections behind the lights themselves.  I left plenty of excess wire beneath the pulpit bases for later connections inside the boat, once the pulpit was installed.

With the new wires in place, I applied new red and green paint to the light housings.
