There were several holes--legitimate and unwanted--through the thin inner deck skins, leftover from certain hardware, or caused by the core removal itself.  Before continuing with new core installation, I needed to begin the patching process.

In each case, I taped over the openings from below, applied epoxy filler from the top side to bring the holes even (for the larger hardware holes), then installed a single layer of thin fiberglass over the tops, and extending out onto the adjacent fiberglass.  This would provide support and bonding surface for the new core without creating an unduly high ridge that would affect the deck shape in a noticeable way.  Later, once the surface recoring was complete, I'd complete the repairs of the holes from beneath.

I had enough core leftover from the coachroof to fill the long, narrow portion of the port forward sidedeck, so I cut pieces of core to fit, prepared the area as needed, and installed the core in epoxy adhesive.  The new core for the remaining areas arrived on schedule later in the day, and that would be my focus in the days to come.
